Frequently Asked Questions

  • If you have completed two tours and are waiting to re-appoint as a Chaplain, YES!

  • CPE has been historically in hospital settings. However, any ministry context will work! If you have a ministry context to do your clinical hours, that’s all that matters. The good news is that it doesn’t have to be a hospital.

  • A unit of CPE is comprised of 400 hours total. 100 education hours (structured by the Educator) and 300 clinical hours. The clinical hours are hours you will complete as you work in your ministry setting.

  • Any place where you work (or volunteer) and your capacity is as a spiritual leader will qualify, like a Pastor, Chaplain, Imam, or Rabbi.

  • Unfortunately, no. Because those students are not coming to you for spiritual guidance, it doesn’t qualify. However, if your title is Chaplain, then this would work.

  • You will need 300 clinical hours over the course of the 15-week unit of CPE. That is equal to 20 hours/week.

  • Generally, class is virtually on Tuesday and Thursday from 1200-1600 CST. We can be flexible when the group comes together and can adjust the date/time if needed.

  • Yes, we can adjust the schedule to accommodate your schedule needs, such as a vacation.

  • If you participate, you are paid by HQ AFRC/HC for a full day’s work. Therefore, expect to put in a total of 16 hours/week. This includes class time and preparation for class.

  • Maybe. Our intentions for CPE classes center on the Lines of Effort to “Fortify warfighter readiness, Reimage HC Culture, and Overhaul HC Readiness”. It has been determined that One Unit of CPE fits these Lines of Effort. Therefore, if you have prior CPE credit, you will be on a waiting list and considered for acceptance, only after those who do not have any CPE.
